Video Games and You: A New Console

Published by bleesdan at 11:07 pm under Video Games and You Edit This

So you got your rebate check back, and you decided to make that big commitment and buy a video game console. But now, you realize that there are three different consoles, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. When the consolse were first sold, the XBox 360 was a clear winner, but now, the choices are not so clear.

Let’s start with the XBox 360. It has been around for the longest, and we would think it would be the best, and it is, for some. The 360 is good for FPS (that’s First Person Shooters) and other action-y games. What you still have to worry about is the Red Ring of Death. Online play is not free, but is well-done, and is easily the best of the three. Get it if you have money to spend every once in a while for online play, because you HAVE to play online.

The Playstation 3 is a powerhouse. It has the most graphics-intesive games, some really good exculsives (Resistance: Fall of Man is still one of the best, even after a few years), and it is one of the cheapest Blu-ray players on the market. However, it is pricey ($400), and the backwards-compatability is terrible. The games that do work look stupid. But, if you want a console that makes the most of your nice, new TV, then this is the one for you.

The Nintendo Wii is the cheapest of the three, and for good reason. It has the worst graphics, and the most kiddy games. But, for your money, you get a reliable console, with an innovative controller system, that allows for the most different controls. If you don’t care about the best new, crazy games, then this is the one for you.

Finally, at the end, if you decide that you would rather just make your PC better, then keep in mind that most of the console games that make it to PC are the XBox 360 erxclusives, and they are mostly the FPS games. However, there are some really superb PC exclusives, and I will touch on those tomorrow. Until then, remember: video games are your friend.
